Bring on the Books: Karin is a voracious reader and typically reads 100 books a year — 2020 was a record year for her reading 144 books! "I can probably live without my Kindle, but I'd prefer not to." Vacay Getaway: "I like to explore new places that I've never been to before. As for repeat vacations within driving distance, nothing can beat Ludington State Park or Sleeping Bear Dunes in West Michigan." Maxwell Salinger SENIOR DIRECTOR OF CULTIVATION CRESCO LABS LINCOLN, ILLINOIS Accomplishments: • Worked with the Washington State Department of Agriculture to develop and refine an organic certification program for cannabis, the first of its kind for cannabis production in the United States. • Executed a 180,000 square-foot canopy expansion to become Illinois' largest cannabis production site; including the onboarding of 190 cultivation team members. Ride on! Max used to competitively race bicycles and was the Ohio State criterium champion in 2015. Following in Mom's Footsteps (kind of ): Max's mom moved from England to the United States to complete an internship at the Cleveland Botanical Garden. "Almost 20 years later I completed the same internship at the same botanical garden; and my supervisor was my mom's intern while she worked at the Holden Arboretum!" Sean Sangster PROJECT MANAGER, HORTICULTURE SERVICES FLUENCE BY OSRAM AUSTIN, TEXAS Accomplishments: • Helps growers understand the basics of photobiology and how key lighting strategies can help improve their commercial production systems. • A former head grower for a large ornamental producer, he oversaw the propagation of seeds and unrooted cuttings for more than 150 different genuses and developed proper cultural practices to optimize the genetic potential of new cultivars. He Continues to Play: In middle school Sean learned how to play the trombone "and have held on to this skill set throughout my adult life." After Hours: When not working, Sean enjoys going for a run, playing basketball and reading books about plants — a favorite is "Plant Empowerment" because it "brings the science of growing plants and physics together to show a new perspective on greenhouse plant production."
